A+ SCHOOL OF THE ARTS
The A+ Schools Program, supported by the N.C. Arts Council, integrates the arts into the core curriculum. Claxton and other A+ schools offer children opportunities to develop creative, innovative ways of thinking, learning, and showing what they know. Specifically, Claxton students enjoy:
- Drama, dance, music, visual arts & creative writing woven into daily instruction
- Arts assemblies featuring artists, storytellers, musicians, etc.
- Artists-in-residence teaching in the classroom
- After-School Arts classes taught by local artists
- Arts-related field trips to local exhibits and performances
- Weekly art, music, and drama classes
- Student performance opportunities like choir and band concerts, plays, morning broadcast, artwork displays, & reader’s theatre
- A.R.T.S. behavior expectations: Attentive, Responsible, Thoughtful, and Safe
- Art garden, beautiful murals, and ongoing gardening projects
